Announced earlier today, G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra, is an upcoming beat 'em up being developed by the Canadian Studio Maple Powered Games, and will be published by Freedom Games. The game, based on the popular 80s franchise is set to be released in Q1 next year and it will be released for PC (Steam, Epic, and GOG) and Nintendo Switch. No word about other consoles was given, but we will let you know if you learn anything.
G.I. Joe will be playable for up to four people locally and online and will feature six playable characters: Duke, Scarlett, Roadblock, Snake Eyes, Gung-Ho, and Ripcord. They all will have unique fighting styles and special. The combat will have a heavy focus on parrying and blocking, so mashing buttons won't take you anywhere in this one. There are plans for DLC characters in the future, both Joes and Cobras, but so far nothing has been disclosed.
Wrath of Cobra is heavily influenced by the classic cartoon series and is set in the Real American Hero Universe. Long-time fans of the show will be able to see a lot of familiar locations like Cobra Island, the Pit, and Cobra’s top-secret underwater base, not to mention familiar characters and enemies from the franchise.
To take care of the soundtrack, the team called no other than Tee Lopes, the legendary composer from games like Sonic Mania, SoR4, and Shredder's Revenge, and also Crush 40’s lead vocalist Johnny Gioeli, who worked in games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
The developers also added that while the game is focused on cooperative gameplay, they want to bring a versus mode in the future and there are talks of other modes to keep things interesting. So far, only the story mode and an arcade mode have been revealed, but we will let you know what else will be coming to the game as soon as we come across the news.
